Mandela Day 2026 in Liverpool

A Citywide Initiative Led by Mandela8 in partnership with Liverpool City Council.

Mandela Day 2026 will recognise Liverpool’s historic links to the struggle against apartheid and the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

Mandela Day, marked internationally on 18 July, celebrates the life and values of Nelson Mandela by encouraging people to take 67 minutes of action for social justice and community improvement, representing the 67 years Mandela dedicated to public service.

The Theme for Mandela Day 2026 is “It’s In Your Hands”.

Activities can take place across Mandela Week (14–18 July 2026) rather than a single day if preferred!

Schools Programme

The Mandela Day Schools Programme will be delivered across primary and secondary schools in Liverpool. Want to get your school involved? Why not suggest some of the activities below to your child’s teacher or headteacher?

Possible activities:
• 67-minute volunteering sessions
• Book donation drives
• School garden or food growing projects
• Student debates on justice and equality
• Inter-school Mandela Day challenge

Community Groups Programme

Want your local Community groups to organise some Mandela Day activities? How about suggesting:

• Book donations
• Mentoring sessions
• Community reading programmes
• Volunteering campaigns
• Community dialogues on equality
• Youth leadership programmes

Each activity would encourage participants to commit at least 67 minutes of service.
